So it turns out that what you wear has a lot to do with how you feel. Some colours can make you feel better! Dopamine dressing is not a new concept, but it’s recently become a buzzword. 


Clearly, we’ve had a rough couple of years. There has been a sense of no control over worldly situations and everyone is just looking for that one drop of hope somewhere. Enter Dopamine Dressing where science intersects fashion. 

Okay, a brief introduction to dopamine. Dopamine is that feel-good brain chemical!  It’s that rush you get when someone buys you cake, your favourite song plays or you take a sip of cold water on a hot day. Or simply, the happy chemical. 


Now colour psychology is all about this. Certain colours can trigger dopamine receptors in your brain and elevate your mood! Some colours can make you feel safe, comfortable and confident too. 



But, But How Do Colours Give You A Rush? 


We spot a lot of bright & unusual colour combinations at runways. We can arguably agree that everyone is wearing a lot more colour than before. The kidcoretrend has a lot to do with this. Psychedelic prints straight from the 80s have made a comeback too. 2022 fashion has been fun and maximalist. 

But even though there’s no universal colour associated with happiness, there’s a clear relationship between what you wear and confidence! Bright colours are a top pick for dopamine dressing! But it isn’t just bright colours. It’s the personal association that matters. 


Colour works with your memory. How you see a certain colour affects how you feel in it! If black means confidence to you, you’ll feel more confident wearing it! And if you associate the brightest yellow with happiness, you’ll feel happy wearing it.
