Habits you should drop that your skin will thank you for
If there’s one thing you should do for your skin, it is to treat it with the TLC it deserves. There are a lot of things we know we shouldn’t be doing to our skin, but let’s not fool ourselves, we do it anyway. Here are 6 worst habits that you should drop so that your skin can be the best it possibly can.
- Picking and popping
The cardinal sin of skincare- picking your skin and popping pimples. We know you can’t resist squeezing a giant zit, but, DON’T. Picking at your skin creates more inflammation underneath and not to mention the bazillion bacteria on your fingertips that it now going to penetrate your skin through the hole you just made by popping that zit. So, keep your hands to yourself, honey!
If you’re like us and can’t bear to leave a pimple along, go for our Dart Its- Pimple Patches to nail it in the head! (metaphorically speaking ofc!)
- Not using and reapplying SPF
Most people I know disregard the use of sunscreen, especially when indoors. These same people also go out to buy anti-ageing products for premature lines and wrinkles. We can’t emphasize enough on the importance of SPF. The sun is responsible for 90% of skin ageing- yes, genetics are responsible, but so is sunblock! Go for a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 and reapply every 3 hours. You can either spend hundreds now on sunscreens or millions later on treating irreversible skin problems later. The choice and bank balance, both are yours.
- Over exfoliating
We know you love how your skin glows after exfoliation but over exfoliating can break the skin barrier and have it exposed to the harsh environment. Always use a mild exfoliant with small granules no more than once a week for dry/sensitive skin and twice a week for combo/oily skin.
- Skipping moisturiser on Oily skin
A big big mistake people with oily skin generally do is skip moisturiser. Doing this will further activate your already over active sebaceous glands a.k.a. oil glands. Go for a gel based, lightweight moisturiser to hydrate your skin after cleansing.
- Forgetting neck and Décolleté
Even if your face looks flawless, a crow’s neck can be a serious giveaway of your age. Always continue your skincare routine down to the neck and décolleté. Gently massage in all the products in an upward motion so that your skin doesn’t tend to sag (that’s exactly what we don’t want, do we?)
- Using the same products forever
You might have found your DREAM moisturiser but sorry to break your bubble, this love affair can’t last forever. Over time, your skin tends to adapt to the active ingredients in a product which makes it less effective. Seasons change, as should your skincare routine.
