The 2022 MET MEMO
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (for like, most of your life sis) you know about the esteemed, prestigious and literally just the biggest day in fashion for the year - the Met Gala. We’re dishing allllll the tea on the Oscars of Fashion right here!
Theme is Everything
On the invitation every year is the most important dress code for the evening and this year is ALL about gilded glamour!
The gilded age is all about a time of prosperity and growth, a period of innovation in fashion, architecture and materialism.
The Guest List
Anna Wintour, the QUEEN of Vogue and the fashion world curates the guest list, invites really only the most famous people on Earth and advises on themes.
It really is only the best of the best who are invited (um, Anna, we must’ve lost ours in the mail) and we’re looooving the Indian representation at the charity gala from Deepika Padukone who absolutely killllled it in 2019 (as per use) to Priyanka Chopra in THAT Ralph Lauren trench coat in 2017.
We’ve seen guests show up in #basicaf interpretations of the theme too but so many who have serrrved - let’s take a look!
Natasha Poonawala
This year, business woman and philanthropist Natasha Poonawala who paid homage to our culture with a maang tikka in 2019, has once again brought desi glamour to the world stage in a Sabyasachi (?!) saree teamed with a Schiaparelli bustier. Okay, not going to lie, we are in LOVE and so is the entire internet world. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, this look slayed the theme, celebrating a time of opulence and abundance while highlighting fashion, art and beauty. We’ve waited our entire lives for a saree to grace the stairs of the MET, but this is here to stay!
Riz Ahmed
We saw a lot of gold this year - wings, dresses, capes. But, British actor Riz Ahmed’s understated interpretation of the Gilded Glamour theme is one that has definitely won hearts by focusing on the people that contributed to the glamour - labourers and immigrants that were often unseen.
At Gush we’re allll about being squeaky clean, sustainable and multi use, we love that some attendees brought this to their fashion looks too!
Kim Kardashian
Kim K brings the drama, and we’re down for it. While definitely controversial af, the look is definitely an archival fashion statement. In the iconic beaded gown worn by Marilyn Monroe that is now owned by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum, this is an outfit that is turning heads to look to vintage classics (um, without the 5$m price tag!), and generational styles over trending fast fashion.
Emma Stone
While most people bring out the big guns for the Met, Emma Stone decided to look through her own wardrobe for the perfect outfit instead, meaning no excess material wastage for a new product! Instead, the actress wore her own white, feathered wedding gown!
Billie Eilish
Punk queeeeen arrived to the red carpet with the intention to be as eco-friendly as possible (and look fab while doing it!) in a completely up cycled Gucci gown using previously used fabric.
And that’s the tea on everything Met Gala 2022, we’re already itching to dissect next year! What were your fav looks and which makeup looks are you hoping to recreate from Met inspo?
Xoxo,
Team Gush <3
